In the Avatar project, the Intelligent Mobile Platform (IMP) group at KU Leuven develops a zero-emission 1 Tonne research vessel known as Maverick, with the primary objective of enhancing automation in inland waterway transport.

In the final demonstration, the IMP group will demonstrate Maverick's autonomy level by integrating a range of multi-modal sensors, including GNSS, IMU, camera, and LiDAR, and presenting various scenarios.

Firstly, Maverick will automatically follow a voyage that is pre-defined by a series of waypoints.

Secondly, Maverick will independently move towards a designated destination where navigation is accomplished by a perception system.

Lastly, Maverick will show its remote control property, allowing project partners from Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg to operate Maverick from their control center.

The event is organized in cooperation with North Sea Port.
