Aiming to be carbon-neutral by 2050, the city of Amersfoort wants to demonstrate a local, peer-to-peer energy market in an operational environment and look further into the upscaling potential of smart grids and peer-to-peer (P2P) trading.
With their partner, Energievannu, Amersfoort will explore existing small-scale projects and P2P technologies to see what could be further tested and developed in the Amersfoort pilot.
For the pilot, a business model will also be developed. A small group of residents have been asked to participate in the project to ensure citizens are involved and heard throughout the process. The ultimate goal is to have a working business model and a thorough understanding of governance, regulation and community building within the energy sector.
