New programme submitted for approval

14 February 2022 - Published by Anne Sofie Forfang
Today, we have submitted the draft Interreg North Sea Programme VIB (2021-2027) to the European Commission for approval. Endorsed by all seven member countries, the paper is a major milestone on the road towards the future programme.

A long journey

Starting in November 2019, the Programme Preparation Group (PPG) has developed the new programme over the past 28 months.

The PPG represents the member countries in the new programme: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. From priorities to frameworks for projects and calls, they were tasked to find common ground on all key aspects. The group has so far met 12 times.

The work was informed by nearly 400 stakeholders who participated in our online consultations. Also, external experts conducted a scoping study, while an external evaluation of the current programme also helped inform the development of the future programme. An independent screening found no need for an Environmental Strategic Assessment.

The Covid-19 pandemic broke out shortly after the first PPG meeting and has marked the entire process of programme development. A big thank you to the PPG members for their great spirit of cooperation throughout this challenging time!

The next steps

We are now waiting for the Commission's feedback on the draft programme.

Meanwhile, we have already launched the first call in the future programme. We hope to be able to launch the programme and approve the first projects in the summer of 2022.
