10 things to know about transnational cooperation

The North Sea Region Programmes is part of a joint paper showcasing the value of transnational cooperation and its impacts across the European Union.

You may be well aware of the benefits of transnational cooperation in the North Sea Region. Our stakeholders often emphasise how working together across the region makes everyone stronger and raises the region's overall ability to tackle important transboundary challenges.

Perhaps not surprisingly, stakeholders have much the same experience in other transnational cooperation programmes. This year, an informal working group* has been exploring the common values of regional cooperation.

A key outcome of this exercise is a joint paper highlighting 10 key strengths of transnational cooperation including projects examples for each point.

This joint visibility effort helps all the transnational programmes to tell the overall story of their positive impacts on European sustainable development.

'For us in the North Sea Region, this process has confirmed the programmes' common identity and the great spirit of cooperation that exists within and between the transnational programmes,' observes Head of Secretariat Christian Byrith.

Participating in this process is only a part of the North Sea Region Programme's efforts to showcase the impact of our projects. We are also working to tell stories from our project portfolio, demonstrating how our projects help transform the North Sea Region.
