Process and timeline

The process of programme development involves regular meetings in the Programme Preparation Group (PPG). The PPG leads the development of the new programme, including delegates representing Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The PPG takes all formal decisions on behalf of the member countries. The do so based on the EU regulations, a number of background papers, stakeholder inputs, and national priorities.

The PPG had its first meeting in Leiden, the Netherlands, 5-6 November 2019, following the publication of the European Commission's Orientation Paper for the North Sea Region. The group meets on a regular basis throughout the programming period.

Below is a simplified timeline indicating the main milestones reached along the way. The future part of the timeline is tentative and may change.
