Northern Connections Work Package 5 deals with policy implications such as recommendations on internationalisation of regional innovation strategies.

These are to be based on Inputs from both WP3 and WP4 and to be set out in a manner that supports their translation to other regional bodies across the North Sea Region. At the Aalborg Meeting, The Political Board, a kind of "WP5 Steering Committee" set up at CEO/directors Level, discussed first findings of WP3 on regional innovations strategies as well as on structures, needs and strengths of clusters and related Networks across the project consortium. The Political Board adopted a "Political Statement on Northern Connections Partnership", summing up the major targets and actions of WP5 until 2020, and agreed on a work plan for the "Policy Coordination Group", the day-by-day working Body of WP5, supervised by the Political Board.

A major aim of WP5 will be testing its own recommendations by embedding these in regional innovation strategies of public sector Project Partners, such as regions or cities.
